Description

Rubber Non-Slip Sole Protector Pads offer safety and durability for shoes with leather soles, in wet, rough, or slick conditions. Easy to apply, these self-adhesive pads can be cut to size and placed on any part of the shoe's soles, for added grip and to greatly prolong the life of any leather-soled shoes.

  • Rubber
  • Approximately 3.5 x 2.5 inches / 8.8 x 6.3 cm
  • Self-adhesive backing - just peel and stick
  • Replace as necessary
  • Cut to size or shape for custom placement
  • Tan

For best results:

  1. Remove any dirt from sole with damp cloth
  2. With a rubber sole, also lightly wipe with alcohol to remove any residue
  3. Remove self-adhesive back and apply to clean, smooth sole and heat with hairdryer
  4. Apply firm pressure to sole protector while warm
  5. Leave for 24 hours to cure

Suitable, but adhesive will wear out over time

I think one of the biggest caveats for a lot of the shoes for American Duchess is that they do not grip well on slick surfaces. So, having some non-slip soles is useful and these work well enough, but not if you use your shoes often enough on concrete and other rough surfaces.
There is wear/rips that happens on the edges and often, the pad will begin to shift around which can be annoying, especially in hotter temperatures. Sometimes the adhesive will completely wear out at the edges and begin to come loose as you're walking.

If you plan on using the shoes in your more daily routine and outfits to walk for a little while, it might be worth the time and effort to put money towards a sheet of sole sheet where you can trace out and cut out the soles yourself and stick on with shoe glue.
Otherwise, these work fine if you don't plan on wearing your shoes except for nice events.

If you find that you need more traction on your shoes and would like a more permanent solution to adhesive rubber pads, you can take your shoes to your local cobbler to have rubber half or full soles installed. This is especially effective for folks needing a non-slip sole, but it does reduce the historical accuracy of your shoes. If you reenact in a wet or rough outdoor area, applied soling is your best bet for safety and durability on your historical footwear. Half and Full soles can be applied by any shoe repair shop.
