Meet Bristol, our low-heeled, everyday side-button boot of the late Victorian, Edwardian, and 1920s eras. These snappy ankle boots feature a leather and cotton upper based directly on an antique pair of original men's button boots from the turn of the 20th century. Bristols are an all-day style, very comfortable and practical, and perfect for both modern and historic dress.

This design is also available in men's sizing, called Frederick. There is crossover between the men's and women's size ranges. Please note that women's standard width is "B" and men's standard width is "D."

You will need a button hook to easily and quickly get your boots on. Button hooks sold separately.

very good shoes, wish there were buttons sold separately

Very good shoes, high quality, however, I've had a bit of an issue with the buttons occasionally falling off. It's not a super big deal, but I wish this site could sell replacement buttons as I've had some trouble tracking down the right shape and size. Since the boot is rather loose at the ankle, I would recommend making sure not to get too big a size. I cherish those shoes and like the idea of wearing them regularly, but that does imply an effort of maintenance. Very dapper, always feel so fancy whenever I wear them, though.

    LOVE!

I recently acquired a pair of these boots and I LOVE them. Fit as expected. I put non slip sole pads on the bottoms and they're even better (finish on the leather soles don't provide much traction). The leather feels and looks lovely, cotton is sturdy and thick. Unless you are especially proficient with small buttons, I'd advise purchasing a button hook. They are 100% able to be closed by hand, but it takes longer. I also received two spare buttons. I purchased these shoes on the Bastille day sale and I don't regret dropping money on them. Their quality is easily seen and felt.

Quite frankly the shoes of my dreams

There’s a whole saga around why I wanted boots like these, and for how long, and why it’s taken me so long to buy them, but they arrived today and I tried them on with baited breath afraid they wouldn’t close around my large-framed ankles all the way and I’d have to have some major work done to them in order to wear them without leaving little marks where the original buttons were.

My anxiety was for naught! They fit my ankles like a glove. The 6.5 fits my slightly wide, rather short foot well without being too long or too narrow. The heel is low enough that I can wear them comfortably even while I’m still healing from a meniscal tear.

As a nonbinary person who sometimes feels femme and sometimes feels masc and sometimes feels like something else entirely (and always feels at least a little bit extra) I’m thrilled to have such a pair of shoes that can go with trousers or a walking skirt equally, or look fabulous with a shorter skirt and tights, and bring a unique flair and definitive statement to any outfit.

Finally, at this point it seems almost silly to say the shoes are excellent quality. Anyone who has ever bought American Duchess shoes knows how beautiful they are! But just in case someone reading this never has, well, when I pulled them out of the box I thought to myself the same thing I thought when I purchased my previous pairs of other styles - “These are the most beautiful shoes I’ve ever owned.”

Love these shoes, but one nitpick...

So, let me preface this by saying I LOVE these shoes. I have scoliosis so, sometimes heels are a bit rough for me, and so having a pair of shoes with a flatter soles has actually been super, super comfy for me. And I love not having to stop and retie them constantly too.
My one and only problem with these is the fact I appear to have worn through the back of the heel of the right shoe VERY quickly. I've had these shoes for less than a month, and I think I may have to replace the heel with one made of rubber, or something like that. This could all be down to me spending a lot of time walking around, but I wish they had lasted at least a bit longer before they needed repairs.
That said, I still LOVE these shoes. They've become my day-to-day shoe, and that says a lot I think. Highly recommend them, worth every penny!

OH MY GOD THESE ARE WONDERFUL

these are so so good! they are so comfortable (i usually have a few issues with the right shoe being a bit tight, and while it is noticibly tighter than the left foot, it is still comfortable which i can't say about most shoes). these shoes are so cool. i feel like a character from some historical fantasy movie, which is always the ideal. find me fighting demons on the streets of london in the 1890s or so.
