Wednesday Vintage Mary Jane Shoes (Merlot)
Description
This product is on Last Chance final sale and non-returnable.
Style and practicality meet in the Jazz Age with the Wednesday flat Mary Jane shoes. Wednesdays are based on many original 1920s and 1930s advertisements for flat single-strap shoes with low 0.75 in / 2 cm common-sense heels and rounded toes. Shoes like these were worn by both women and girls, and often featured cutouts, broguing, and decorative contrast stitching. They are accurate all the way through the 1960s.
We've kept the Wednesday shoes simple and refined with white stitching outlining small perforation on calf leather uppers. The vamp strap has an adjustable center buckle, and the soles and heels are durable yet flexible, real leather. Wear Wednesdays with vintage daywear of the Art Deco period, or with modern Lolita and gothic attire.

Ever since I outgrew children's shoe sizes, I have looked at cute, flat, round toed mary-jane shoes and wished they came in adult sizes. Yes, there are adult mary-jane's, but they weren't the same. These are, and they're as comfortable as my childhood memories. And they're green!
I'm so glad I bought these on sale. These are my first purchase from AD...and wish I had bought some a long time ago. I work in libraries, so I was looking for something comfortable but dressy. I'm usually a size 9, but I grabbed 8.5 due to comments. I'm glad I did. They fit perfect. The buckle seems nice and sturdy, and overall believe these shoes will last me quite awhile.
I picked these above some of my flashier favorite because they lack a heel, which works much better for me walking about day-to-day. It took a few days (with rests in between) to break them in but they have behaved very well. The soles are pretty delicate as far as leather goes, but I hope to keep my shoes forever. Very comfortable, and the buckle takes me about as long as tying a tennis shoe.
Was looking for 1940s era shoe to wear during living history. Wanted flats/very low heels since I'd be on my feet/walking over 8 hours/day. Absolutely love the style and quality BUT they are cut way long in the toe area. I ordered my usual 11 and these shoes are so long that a 10 might be a better fit? or 9.5? Unfortunately, I can't return these because I bought on sale. Due to the strap placement, using a heel pad makes the strap cut into my ankle. This strap placement also keeps the shoe from sliding around on my foot even though they are so big. I'll experiment with wearing around the house, but would definitely return for something else if I could.
We're sorry you're having issues with the fit on your Wednesdays! If you email our customer service team at info@americanduchess.com, they'll be happy to offer suggestions to hopefully improve the fit.
I’m so happy I snagged these whilst they were on sale. I’ve been dying for a classic pair of flat Mary Janes for ages. The maroon is beautiful and eye catching, but the hue and saturation are toned down so there is a subtlety to them that makes them work with all kinds of ensembles. I love the white stitching and the metal buckle. It’s these little details that help really make these shoes (and all AD shoes) shine. They are extremely comfortable, with the exception that the heel rubs me just a bit. However, a thin heel pad, or likely some more time wearing them should remedy that. I typically wear a size 7, but have to accommodate for my feet having a lot of spread and flexibility. With that being said I didn’t order a wide, and I still find them extremely comfortable. Thank you AD for your artistry, knowledge, and dedication to making such practical, yet timelessly gorgeous shoes.
