Description

A good, solid oxford is a real asset to any vintage fashion enthusiast. Why sacrifice your vintage style for practicality when you can do as your grandmother did and sport a great pair of low-heeled oxfords? Our Claire 1940s Oxfords meet all the requirements of a sensible shoe while also playing up that chic vintage style we all love.

Claire 1940s Oxfords are direct reproductions of an original CC41 compliant "Academy Girl" brand shoe. They meet all the requirements for most military unit dress shoes and are similar in design and decoration to original styles sold as military dress shoes by historic brands such as Lotus and Red Cross.

Claires are constructed of a calf leather upper, lined in brown pigskin leather, with leather soling and a 1.6 in / 4 cm stacked-look heel, just like the original.

Beautiful, but Too Wide

Some American duchesses have narrow feet. I hoped with this lace up I might be okay with a regular witdth, but sadly they still slip on this dutchess’s heel.

If your foot is an A or AA then a B width shoe may not fit you out of the box. We do have some tips and tricks for folks with either narrow or wide feet at the link below, but you can also reach out to us at info@americanduchess.com any time for more personalized advice!

Some general all purpose tips: use a ball of foot cushion, an arch support, or a full insole padded support to take up a bit of extra space in the shoe. If your heel still slips, you can use a heel strip like the ones on our accessories page.

Even I can wear heels

These are surprisingly comfortable. I'm 5'7" and 240 pounds; I really shouldn't be wearing heels. I got the 10W and I was actually shocked by how comfortable they were. Granted, my knees and back hurt, but my feet did not, not even a blister. I would recommend the sole protector if you plan to do any city walking and are as heavy as I am, as the leather soles won't last.

Just like I bought them from an old Sears Catalog

Authentic!! I have a wide toe box, so I was a bit apprehensive. I ordered my regular size and they fit without smooshing up my toes. They feel comfortable and am certain I will be able to wear them for long periods of time. I am looking forward to wearing these out on the town!

Dream shoes!

I’ve been eying these shoes for months and finally took the plunge and ordered. Amazing!! Crazy comfortable, true to size (7.5 US), and just the touch of vintage I wanted to add to my wardrobe. A tiny bit stuff until broken in, but no chafing thanks to the low cut design. So well-made. Will absolutely be ordering another style!

Perfect for the purpose!

I don't think anyone would call these beautiful shoes, but they are beautifully made and fit well. I will be using them as uniform shoes with a WWII WAVES officer uniform costume for a fundraiser, and they're perfect for that. As always, AD is high-quality and accurate.
