From the creative closet of Dandy Wellington come these gorgeous vintage cap toe oxfords made in rich and sophisticated nubuck and smooth leather. The Gladys oxfords feature fine brogue detailing including a clever "W" design on the cap toe along with the signature Dandy Wellington logo stamp on the heels.

Inspired by gender-bending pianist and vocalist Gladys Bentley, The Gladys Oxfords are a sartorial work of art that would be at home in her wardrobe. Bentley, who was openly gay, had a decades long recording career and often performed in men’s attire all over Harlem.

The Gladys Cap Toe Oxfords use a refined last shape with an almond toe reminiscent of late Edwardian and 1920s silhouettes, but are perfectly period well into the 1950s. Spritz them with Angelus Water & Stain Repellent and keep the nubuck leather lightly brushed for everyday wear, and add that unmistakably Dandy Wellington pizzazz to your vintage and modern outfits alike.

This design is also available in men's sizing, called Dandy. There is crossover between the men's and women's size ranges. Please note that women's standard width is "B" and men's standard width is "D."

My go-to shoes

I own three pairs of Gladys oxfords, and if budget permitted I'd own them in every color! As another reviewer said, they need a bit of time to break in the leather; but once broken in, they're incredibly comfortable. I get compliments every time I wear them, and they look just as good with modern outfits as with retro garb.

LIKE CINDERELLA'S SLIPPERS

It's the second pair i buy to American Duchess and again, i am beyond happy with these! The quality is great, it's exactly as described and it's a perfect fit for my size. I haven't felt that comfortable in a pair of shoes in a long time! Thanks again for your wonderful work and seriousness!

Break These In Slowly

Bought these shoes so that I could dress as a 1930's gentleman for a play, and they do the trick quite well while still fitting my dainty size 7 feet. My only regret was not ordering them sooner, as I didn't have time to break them in before the show! My heels were absolutely destroyed, and the shoes fit tightly enough that, months later, I still can't put any kind of padding in them without them becoming too tight to fit into. I did discover, though, that they fit my modern orthotics very well, and those elevate my heel enough that I can wear these shoes in comfortably. My suggestion to any other buyers is to wear them in a little at a time - eventually, they will mold to your foot beautifully.
